Curtain up on Diversity! Opera repertoire in Germany (folded poster #1)
Clear the stage for diversity. Opera fans in Germany have more choice than anywhere else: in the five seasons before the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, they could choose from a total of 860 works by 457 composers - including "perennial favourites" such as The Magic Flute, but also rarely performed baroque operas, rediscoveries and contemporary works. In addition to this diversity, the music theatre has its finger on the pulse of the times: almost every second work performed was written after 1945. Visitor interest is primarily focused on the operas of the 18th and 19th centuries. The 20 most popular operas alone accounted for 45 percent of all visits.
The German Music Information Centre (miz) provides detailed infographics showing the composition of the repertoire in the 2014/15 to 2018/19 seasons and the main focus of the 19 million visits. The annual "Who played what?" statistics of the German Stage Association served as the data basis for the analysis.
In addition to the central full-page infographic on the inside, the handy folding poster offers explanatory articles on the back.
